Frequently asked questions
Ordering, shipping, allergies, storage and the ingredient question. If your question is not here, the phone is answered by a person who makes the candy.
How do I order?
Fill in the order request form on the contact page with the candies and quantity you have in mind. We reply by email within two business days with availability, the total price and pickup times. Nothing is charged on this website; there is no basket and no online checkout.
Do you ship, or is it pickup only?
Pickup at the kitchen on 3rd Avenue is the simplest option and it is free. Shipping is possible within the United States, and we quote it in our reply once we know the size of the order and the destination. Candy is fragile and heat-sensitive, so in hot months we may suggest waiting for a cooler week.
How much does it cost?
Boxes start at six pieces and prices depend on the candies and the quantity, so we quote each order individually in our reply. We would rather give you an accurate number than a website price we have to correct later.
How long does the candy keep?
Most of our hard candy is at its best within four to six weeks of the date written on the box, and fine for around eight. Keep it wrapped, cool and dry, and never in the refrigerator. There is a full guide in the journal: storing handmade hard candy.
Why don't you list ingredients on the website?
Because guessing the flavour is half the fun, and knowing the answer in advance spoils it. This is not about hiding anything: write to us and we will tell you exactly what is in any batch, including colours and allergens, before you order.
I have a food allergy. Can you help?
Ask us before ordering and we will tell you precisely what is in the batch you are interested in. Our kitchen is small and we make candy by hand in shared equipment, so we cannot promise a cross-contamination-free environment, and we will say so plainly rather than guess. If your allergy is severe, please treat our reply as information, not as medical advice.
Is there anything to help me guess the flavour?
The flavour notes on the candies page describe what people usually taste and what they usually get wrong. They deliberately stop short of the recipe. If you want the answer, email us with your guess — we always reply.
Can you make custom colours or flavours for a wedding or an office?
Usually, yes, with two weeks' notice in cool months and more in summer. Send the date, the quantity and the look you have in mind. We will be honest about what is realistic: exact colour matches between batches are not something hand-poured sugar can promise.
Do you take payment online?
No. Every order is confirmed by a person first, and payment is arranged when we reply to your request. That keeps this site free of card data and keeps us from selling candy we have not made yet.
Can I visit the shop?
Yes, during our opening hours, though pickups are scheduled by appointment so there is someone free to help you. Our address, phone number and hours are on the contact page. It is a working kitchen, not a café — there is no seating and no coffee, but there is usually something to taste.
Is your candy suitable for children?
Hard candy is a choking risk for young children, and every piece on our list is a hard candy. We sell it as a sweet for adults and older children; please use your own judgement for anyone under about six.
What if something arrives broken?
Tell us within a few days of receiving it and send a photograph. Handmade sugar glass does break, and while a chipped edge is normal, a box that arrives in pieces is our problem to solve, not yours.
Send us an order request
Tell us which candies caught your eye and how many you need. We reply by email within two business days with availability, price and pickup times.
